How's the Thailand TEFL job market?

Are salaries really going down?

Ajarn.com asked about thirty recruiters, language school owners, government school hirers and firers, etc for their opinions on the TEFL job market in Thailand. So then - are teacher salaries really going down?

Thailand race Issues

Postbox letter from Mr B

I came to Thailand with my girlfriend and within two weeks we both had a job in the same school - quite fortunate, I know. Neither of us have degrees, but we have TESOL certs and various tertiary qualifications. The process of getting the job was a little strange or different to what I'm used to. We both applied for the same job posts that we found online and many of these applications required a picture. My girlfriend got quick replies and I hardly got any or was told that I would be 'kept in mind' for future positions.

Be warned!

Postbox letter from Dennis Faulkner

This is just a 'be aware and take care' story. The week before last I was offered a job with a teacher agency and invited to start immediately. But as I was already working for another school so the best I could do was give the agency a week’s notice and I eventually left my old school last Friday

Khao San Road teacher recruiters

Postbox letter from Barry Brooks

There is a new insipid species of teacher recruiter in action in the Khao San Road area.

Working for the man

Are teaching agents spelling disaster for hard-working chalkies?

The main problem that teachers seem to have with agencies is the salaries on offer. Teacher agents and 30,000 baht a month salaries have suddenly become the Siamese twins of the Thailand TEFL game. They're joined at the hip.

Ajarn.com's ridiculous job ads

Postbox letter from Glen Travis

Teachers need to force agencies to offer better wages and force ajarn to stop accepting insulting job ads.

Agencies and monthly salaries

Postbox letter from Teacher Andries

Why is it when the school does not pay the agency on time the teacher does not get his salary as per contract?

Nothing but misinformation

Postbox letter from Mr T

I'm finding out that almost everything in Thailand's TEFL industry is a big fat lie.

Contract headaches

Postbox letter from Ajarn Andrew

Always make sure a contract is signed if you plan on working with an agency.

A Haven for Filipino Teachers

Some suggestions on where Filipinos might find teaching work

Each agency has different sets of procedures and requirements. Just prepare all your credentials when you apply, including your ID pictures. Be ready with some teaching materials too because a number of agencies require 5-10 minute teaching demonstration.
