No degree, no problem

Postbox letter from richard

I'm tired of all this negative feedback about problems for unqualified teachers. This is Thailand. If the school likes you, they will easily find a way to make any government or immigration issues non-existent for you.

Loads of work for unqualified teachers

Postbox letter from Rob

I have just been reading about the changes to the law for unqualified teachers and thought i might give my opinion....as an unqualified teacher.

Thailand's ill-timed implementation of the 'provisional permit'

Postbox letter from Ajarn Jim

When a foreign teacher's current 'waiver' letter expires, then that teacher must meet the requirements for the new 'provisional permit' if the teacher doesn't possess a teaching license.

Conversations with agents

Postbox letter from Mitch

Real phone conversations with real teacher agencies. I kid you not.

I've given up looking too

Postbox letter from Sir Heath

I made the mistake of bringing some first year students' problems to the attention of the head of the section last year. By September, after four and half year at this university, despite 'an excellent record of work' the university decided to let me go.

Absolute pile of sh*te

Are the job ads really that bad?

A disgruntled ajarn.com reader wrote in to say that he had never seen such low quality job ads on the Thailand TEFL websites. Is he right in his assumption? And if so, what are the reasons?

How's the Thailand TEFL job market?

Are salaries really going down?

Ajarn.com asked about thirty recruiters, language school owners, government school hirers and firers, etc for their opinions on the TEFL job market in Thailand. So then - are teacher salaries really going down?

Thailand race Issues

Postbox letter from Mr B

I came to Thailand with my girlfriend and within two weeks we both had a job in the same school - quite fortunate, I know. Neither of us have degrees, but we have TESOL certs and various tertiary qualifications. The process of getting the job was a little strange or different to what I'm used to. We both applied for the same job posts that we found online and many of these applications required a picture. My girlfriend got quick replies and I hardly got any or was told that I would be 'kept in mind' for future positions.

Race and non-degree jobs

Postbox letter from Xandra Martin

I am a female teacher from South Africa. I am a person of colour (or coloured) in my country. I do not have a degree in any field - only a diploma. When doing my TEFL course and doing research on the internet, people painted a picture of how easy it would be to find a teaching job in Thailand. This however does not appear to be the case.
