Thoughts of home (European edition)
What do teachers miss most about their homeland?
For many European teachers, Thailand offers sun, smiles, and a wonderfully different pace of life. But there are always memories, comforts, and flavors that don’t quite translate. We asked 10 teachers from across Europe, who have made Thailand their home, what they miss most about their home country. Their answers were heartfelt, honest, and occasionally humorous.
Is there currently an oversupply of teachers?
What's the reality for expats disillusioned with their homeland?
Is a new wave of teacher arriving? - not by design, but out of necessity. Across Europe for example, people are feeling the squeeze of rising costs, political frustrations, and a general sense that their home country just isn’t what it used to be. So why not give teaching in Thailand a go?
I definitely made the right choice
The expat teacher lifestyle is filled with rewards
I've always wanted to travel, write, and have varied experiences, and I'm now able to do those things.
Why obtain a U.S. teaching license?
Postbox letter from Knox
As I am contemplating the ever-growing possibility of making the leap to Thailand, I see it fit to present a few thoughts on qualifications beyond that of an undergraduate degree.

We are family
I play piggy-in-the-middle while the family feuds go on all around me
Here in Thailand, family is supposed to be everything, and quite often that is the case. But what happens when two members of the same family have a serious falling out? What side will the rest of the family take, and does it even matter who is right and who is wrong?
Family Thais
A tale of the simple life in Issan with a bit of financial debt, drug dealing and machete-swinging thrown in.
When we moved from the UK to Thailand via India, I firmly believed that I had made the right move for myself and my family. We’d said goodbye to dismal Britain and were here to stay. What followed was a torrid time that bore little if any resemblance to what I believed Thailand stood for.
Our story
Two teachers in love and planning their life together in Thailand
Suffering or no suffering, this time we are doing it. We are Thailand bound and excited, if somewhat distracted for the time being. Sun, smiles, a detachment from most of what and who we know. New friends, new haunts and new experiences. A different perspective on life. Success or failure, this foray into the relative unknown will shape the rest of our lives.
We've landed!
I was looking for a job and then I found a job
I was refused a place at the two major international school recruitment fairs and turned down by every international school I applied to. Then one fine morning last week, I received an email from a private Thai EP school that I had applied to way back at the start of my job search, offering me an interview.
