All the latest news from Thailand's major TEFL course providers


 SEE TEFL Chiang Mai

SEE TEFL up in Chiang Mai have been teaching a full-time 120-hour course for seven years and can boast over 600 graduates. They now offer a teacher training and paid internship opportunity twice a year to coincide with the two school semesters in Thailand. The next internship training date is 30th September to 11th October 2013. The SEE TEFL internship program is a great way to experience Thailand as a paid teacher, but also ideal for those who aren't ready to commit to a 4-week TEFL course program or a teaching committment longer than five months. Internship includes pre-arrival classroom familiarization training, two weeks face-to-face classroom skills and cultural awareness induction training in Chiang Mai. Then a paid one-semester teaching job of four to five months in a rural or provincial Thai school. Interns are paid a minimum of 25,000 baht a month. More information here. Island TEFL

Island TEFL is offering Ajarn readers the opportunity to enroll on any of its internationally accredited 120-hour courses at Koh Samui, Phuket or Bangkok for just $595 U.S. (17,900 Baht). Alternatively, you can sign up for their online 120-hour certification program for $225 (6,900 Baht) Island TEFL also offers a hybrid course where you study online followed by four days of practical experience. They offer a 150-hour TEFL/TESOL diploma certificate (Island TEFL's equivalent of the CELTA). Island TEFL also offers guaranteed job placement to course graduates and also for teachers off other TEFL course programs. Island TEFL also has a demand for 300 teachers in Thailand. The positions pay 36,000 baht a month (depending on experience) and furnished accommodation is included. Teachers interested in these positions will have to attend a week long 'meet and greet' and teacher development and cultural immersion program at a beach resort hotel in Pattaya from 22-27th October or in early May. TEFLPlus Phuket

The fourth and last winner of TEFLPlus' Lucky Draw was announced on its website on 26 July. The prize was 29 nights accommodation in Patong Beach, Phuket. Those who downloaded their free copy of the Surviving Thailand Guide were eligible to win. Congratulations to the final winner! Chiang Mai University TEFL

Chiang Mai University TEFL will be offering a one-day workshop on 7th September for teachers looking to develop their communicative teaching techniques. It will aim to provide new and innovative ways to engage students in the classroom. Sessions will be taught by trainers from the CMUTEFL certificate program. The cost is 500 baht which includes refreshments and a lunch at the university. To register simply email with your name and contact telephone number. Certificates of completion will be given to all participants. There will also be discounts available for students who wish to enrol into the CMUTEFL program in the October program as well. The next available program will be 4th October and there are currently 4 places remaining. CMUTEFL Priority Club is exclusive for graduates and will give teachers a head start in job hunting - Chiang Mai University currently has 10 part time teaching positions available across the campus, CMUTEFL graduates will get first pick of these jobs. Starting in October, CMUTEFL will start its 1-year Teaching Diploma program which offers a one-year Non Immigrant ED visa with the program. Samui TEFL

The winner of the Ajarn.com / Samui TEFL competition was Robert Ross and he will be attending the February 2014 course on Samui. Congratuations Robert! American TESOL Institute

For 2013 along with its regular TESOL course and guaranteed job projects, American TESOL Institute has launched a one-week specialized teaching practice course for teachers with qualifications but no teaching experience. The course will include classroom management skills pertaining to Thailand and teaching different lessons across different age groups in actual Thai schools. ATI's second offering in the New Year is a blended hybrid course comprising both online study and in-class training for freshers


What's happening at AYC, TEFL course provider and one of the largest teacher recruiters in Thailand? Well, they have cut the prices of their 120-hour on-site Bangkok TESOL Course to 799 USD for the regular course and 999 USD with private accommodation (a studio apartment) AYC offers internationally recognized certification from INTESOL USA and NCFE UK and one of the aims of the course is to create a source of qualified and prepared teachers for the AYC English program in Thailand.
