TEFL Course News

April 2020

How are Thailand's leading training providers delivering courses at this present time?

SEE TEFL Chiang Mai - SEE TEFL has set up a detailed Covid-19 travel advisory page on their website. Find out how their April and May programs will run depending on various scenarios.

SEE TEFL up in Chiang Mai has been teaching a full-time 120-hour TEFL course for over thirteen years, and can boast over 1,800 graduates. In addition to this popular 4-week certification program, they offer paid teaching internships twice a year to coincide with the two school semesters in Thailand. Early-bird discounts are available for the 4-week program.

The SEE TEFL 4-week course is comprehensive and includes pre-arrival training materials, a grammar review, lesson planning, 6 observed teaching practices in a variety of schools with real students, cultural awareness training, classroom management, survival Thai language lessons, and job seeking advice. They offer visa support and they have a webpage dedicated to all your visa options and how they can help in each case. Well worth a look.

SEE TEFL has a job guarantee, and most TEFL grads find work within a few weeks. SEE TEFL is licensed by the Thailand Ministry of Education, has achieved ISO 9001 quality certification, and is a TQUK approved training centre. There are some great photos here of the new school opening ceremony and you can take a tour of the school in this video.

An online grammar terminology and teaching process review is now included with all 4-week TEFL courses. Grammar will still be reviewed in their course, in a standard classroom setting. However, an introductory refresh of grammar terminology, as well as a video overview of the teaching process, will help with preparation for the course. The grammar terminology and teaching process review is emailed to trainees approximately 4 weeks before the start of their on-site training course.

International House - CELTA provider, International House, offers the globally renowned University of Cambridge CELTA and Delta qualifications.

The 4-week, 120-hour Cambridge CELTA includes significant practical experience. Candidates teach 6 hours of real lessons, including feedback and support for each lesson. Every Cambridge CELTA course is moderated by external Cambridge assessors, so you are assured that the quality of the course and the centre itself meet Cambridge's high standards.

International House Bangkok and International House Chiang Mai have trained more than five thousand candidates over the last 13 years. Their professional trainers have years of experience first as teachers themselves, then as teacher trainers. All trainers are Delta-qualified and have undergone rigorous training moderated by Cambridge University English.

Out of more than 300 Cambridge Teacher Training centres worldwide, International House Bangkok was awarded the most compliant centre for 2015-2016 from Cambridge University. This award recognises the centre that follows all of Cambridge's many requirements most stringently.

In addition to the 4-week course, IH Bangkok also offers part-time CELTA courses over 10 weeks. You can find information and program dates, etc by visiting either the Bangkok website or the Chiang Mai website

Chichester College TEFL  - This year marks the 19th anniversary of the Chichester College TEFL course being run in Bangkok. How time flies! It seems like just yesterday when the first courses were advertised on ajarn.com as far back as January 2001.

In line with the COVID-19 inspired state of emergency in place in Thailand at the moment, and the rules on social distancing and school closures, the Chichester College training centre in Bangkok is currently closed until April 30th. They have created a COVID-19 newsfeed on their site and the team are working remotely, on hand to answer questions about the course or about living and working in Thailand. They invite you to get in touch even if it's just for a casual chat.

Their next available TEFL course is listed as May 18th 2020 on their course dates page but they do stress that this could be subject to change if the Royal Thai Government extends the state of emergency. Nonetheless, they are offering a flexible date-change policy as well as a US$200 discount to those who are able to place a booking at this time -- just mention ajarn.com!

The Chichester TEFL course is known for it's highly interactive classroom sessions, well-organised observed teaching practice sessions and exciting field trips as part of their regular course offering. Therefore, they have opted not to attempt to run the course in an online format during the COVID-19 crisis in an effort to protect the reputation of the Chichester TEFL certificate; known throughout Thailand by school owners and recruiters as a guarantee that an individual is ready to step into a Thai classroom unaided and start teaching from day one.

Be sure to check out the video testimonials page which is updated regularly as new teachers graduate from the course.

They also run a partnership program giving anyone with a teaching blog, page, website, or interested friends the opportunity to earn commission on any TEFL course bought through them. For more information email web@tesol-tefl.net.

TEFL Campus Phuket / Chiang Mai - TEFL Campus wants to assure all prospective trainees that their health and safety is their primary concern. As such, they’ve cancelled their April course. They hope to run their course starting on 25 May, but only if they feel confident they can do so without putting trainees, staff and their English language students at risk.

They currently recommend considering their Combined Course format. This will allow you to study English grammar and phonology, as well as teaching methodology online before attending their center to complete your observed teaching practice with real students. With this format, you only need to attend in-class training for 10 days. Because it includes the all-important teaching practice, the certification carries the same weight as an in-class only course.

If you’re thinking about attending later in the year and prefer in-class only courses, their 4-week, 120-hr accredited TEFL courses are independently moderated and offer credit-bearing study, which is validated by Lamar University. Their in-class and combined (online/onsite hybrid) courses include observed teaching practice in front of real students.  TEFL Campus also offer guaranteed TEFL job support. Their staff has been helping new teachers find jobs worldwide since 2002.

TEFL Campus offers a price-match guarantee and you can read more about their recent successes on their blog page. One of their more recent blogs answer the common question, What is TEFL, and you can read a first-hand account of the course in Jack's TEFL Course Diary. You can also check out their latest videos on their YouTube channel.

GoTEFL Thailand - GoTEFL's Training and Placement Program (TAP) is a 120-hour training course that includes teaching practicum in a real Thai classroom. They also provide lessons on cultural sensitivity as it applies to teaching in Thailand. GoTEFL are partnered with a placement agency called MediaKids Academy. After confirmation to the program, GoTEFL staff will work to find a suitable placement for you, prepare your visa documents, accommodation, curriculum, etc so that your transition into teaching, and a new culture, runs smoothly.

MediaKids Academy is one of the biggest placement companies in Thailand, offering positions in many different provinces. It was founded to provide opportunities for students to interact with English-speakers from different countries. This is something that is still valued highly by the CEO, and therefore most of the positions are in non-tourist areas.  MediaKids Academy has been operating for over 18 years now, with nearly 300 teachers in over 70 schools throughout the country. In recent years, the company has grown considerably, as has the quality of their service, resources and benefits.

Chiang Mai University TEFL - Chiang Mai University still offers its Guaranteed Job Referral Scheme for all its graduates to one of their many recruitment partners.

To be eligible, applicant must show proof of employment upon enrolment to qualify for a 20% discount off the program fees (saving of $280 USD)

Check out the Chiang Mai University website for details of TEFL course dates and other information. They also have an active Facebook page.

Chiang Mai University TEFL is pleased to announce that its new look website is now up and running.  Customers may have previously noticed some inconsistencies with the performance of their old website but this has now been resolved and they are now accepting applications for the next TEFL course.

TEFLPros - is a 120-hour, award-winning, digital course founded by Jos and Whitney, two teacher trainers with almost 20 years experience of teaching in Thailand.  Accredited by Accreditat, the course includes 10 modules consisting of 32 units and 17 hours of in-classroom video. Lesson plan assignments need to be submitted and graded before you can move on to the next module and this challenging course generally takes 3-5 weeks to complete.

Jos sums things up nicely in her bio when she says, "After several years of teaching in Thailand, it became clear to me that there was a disconnect between what new teachers learn and what actually happens in the classroom. Whitney and I formed TEFLPros in order to give new teachers the real tools that they will need to begin a successful TEFL career"

The course also includes trainer chat videos where other teachers in Thailand share their experiences and the opportunity to put together a portfolio of your work to show future employers. In addition, Jos and Whitney are there to answer any questions you may have about the course itself or teaching in Thailand in general.

If you are looking for a well-designed and affordable, digital TEFL course, pay a visit to the TEFLpros website.
