Primary Teacher at WASC International School

Raffles American School (RAS) aims to inspire pedagogical change across Asia by combining research-driven approaches with teacher-inspired implementation strategies. We are a truly student-centered school, which sets us apart from other schools in the region that teach to the test and laud rote memorization from textbooks.

Each student at RAS is encouraged to find their own path, utilizing their individual intelligences. Teachers are expected to nurture this process by creating an inspirational and supportive learning environment. RAS administration, encourages the utilization of each teacher’s unique talents and education strategies. RAS is a place of learning, where innovative teachers can thrive and contribute to the foundations of the new school.

Set amidst the suburbs of Bangkok, RAS is a new, modern campus located in Bangna, not far from Suvarnabhumi International Airport, and minutes from the city's Sky Train. Nearby, there are many western restaurants and large shopping malls, but without all the traffic and pollution of downtown Bangkok. An apartment in Bangna will range from 5k-15k THB per month.

Raffles American School is a member of the Raffles Education Group, Ltd., a global leader in education, from preschool to graduate education. Raffles has been building schools around the world for 30 years, so you can be assured that we maintain standards of quality. Raffles American School Bangkok opened in 2018. Since then, RAS has become WASC accredited, and is now an IB candidate school. Next year, our highest grade level will be Grade 11 and the following year we will have our first students graduate. We are now offering AP courses approved by the College Board and will be adding an IB diploma program. We still have many acres of land to expand our facilities.

We have a diverse population of students from all over the world with different learning needs. Most of the students are from affluent families, but our reasonable tuition prices allow for the emerging middle class to attend an international school. Some students will be coming from the local school system, while others will be coming from a school with Western education standards.

As most of our 500 students are new to the school, teachers will need to differentiate their teaching strategies to accommodate students' various educational backgrounds, while still centering the classes around the same targeted learning outcomes. Raffles American School follows Common Core Standards as grade level learning objectives while using WIDA testing to measure English growth, and MAP adaptive assessments to measure individual improvement.

To accommodate our growing student population, we are currently recruiting a teacher for the elementary school. Applicants should be a state licensed educator (or have early childhood qualifications for Preschool applicants). Equivalent credentials are accepted, but these must be transferable to above listed American credentials, e.g. QTS. Note that a Masters or PGCE without QTS is not considered equivalent to an American teaching license or QTS in the international school job market. Candidates without these credentials are generally not shortlisted unless they have experience teaching in an accredited, formal school. Note that the salary posted is based on the expected starting salary of American-licensed Homeroom Teachers with 10 years of experience.

Position commences mid-August 2022 or ASAP. Working hours are from 7:30am to 3:30pm. Teachers should have approximately 18 contact hours per week. Class sizes usually have 12 to 18 students. There are approximately 179 school days each year, yet teachers are paid in full every month, including summers.

Candidates will be reimbursed for their flight to Thailand and provided round-trip airfare to their home country with each contract (overseas applicants only). Visa and work-permit expenses will be reimbursed by RAS. Medical, accident, disability, and life insurance are also provided. RAS has a helpful and welcoming team of professionals to support our teachers.

To apply, please send your resume to recruitment@ras.ac.th. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. For more information about our school, please visit ras.ac.th
