English Teacher for Grade 5

The school requires a teacher to teach primary/elementary level students in grade 5 at our school, which is on Phaholyothin Soi 37. Please use google maps to find out the approximate location of the school before applying.
About the School
Attamit School is a friendly school located on a quiet, leafy lane on Phaholyothin Soi 37 in the district of Jatujak, which is to the north of central Bangkok. It is situated roughly halfway between Central Ladprao department store and Kasetsart University, less than 10 minutes walk from the well known Major Ratchayothin Cineplex (IMAX).
The school now has an enrollment of over 1,700 students between the ages of 3 and 18. Typically there are 30-36 students in each class and students study 7 periods per day. Each period lasts 50 minutes. Under the current ESL program which has been running for 14 years, students have at least 8 periods per week with foreign teachers.
Our English department currently consists of 23 foreign teachers from England, Scotland, Australia and the Philippines. In addition English grammar, writing and translation is taught by Thai teachers. Furthermore, there are Thai classroom teachers to provide assistance during primary classes taught by foreign teachers.
As one of our teachers you will be expected to teach up to 25 contact periods per week, which includes cover for absent teachers. The main role of our English teachers is to teach English as a second language to students in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
During the opening month of the new semester students will be divided into 2 groups who attend school on alternative days. Therefore, it is necessary to work on Saturdays during this time too.
Each student has a workbook to accompany their classbook, and this must be marked in full, which is an important responsibility our teachers during non-teaching periods.
All teachers are also expected to assist the English department in maintaining and preparing teaching materials, prepare lesson plans, show enthusiasm for and contribute to projects relating to the English department and assist Thai teachers in areas where the teachers' English skills may be useful.
During the year our English Department staff are actively involved in preparing and assisting with extra activities such as song contests, quizzes and competitions. Therefore, the position is not suited to someone who wishes to take things easy. However, those that choose to work with us will find a supportive staff room.
Teachers are responsible for preparing and administering tests and assessments during the term and allocating grades at the end of each term which will form a report sent home to students' parents.
Teachers are also responsible for preparing and leading camp activities in the months when the school is closed to regular study.
Qualifications needed to be considered for the position include:
1. Bachelor's degree.
2. Proficiency and fluency in the English language, including the ability to speak clearly and use correct spelling and grammar.
3. At least 12 months teaching experience.
4. Experience in teaching Thai children preferred.
5. Common sense, initiative and the ability to work independently are big assets.
During your 3 months of probation you will need to show that you have:
1. A dedicated, enthusiastic, hardworking and responsible attitude to your work.
2. A fun loving, mature and polite character suited to working with Thai children and teachers.
3. The ability to create and design additional materials and activities which will stimulate the students' learning and enthusiasm for English.
4. A positive attitude towards working alongside and cooperating with other members of the English Department.
The starting salary for a new teacher begins at 20,000 baht per month.
A 12-month mutually renewable contract is available, which includes a 3-month probationary period.
After the probationary period has been successfully completed an additional 6,000 baht incentive payment is paid every month subject to deductions for absence or clocking in late.
Additional teaching hours will be possible on weekdays between 3-5 p.m. after school. These will be paid at an hourly rate.
Paid annual leave and Thai national holidays.
Assistance in obtaining a visa, teaching license and work permit, subject to meeting the Thai government's requirements.
Free school lunch.
Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 15:30 hours, but Monday to Saturday during the current period when students study on alternate days. Extra compensation for extra hours of teaching.

Note: The school will provide assistance in obtaining a work permit and visa. The school will not cover the cost of obtaining tourist visas, visa alterations or trips outside Thailand.
