TEFL Course News

March 2016

All the latest news, etc from Thailand's leading TEFL course providers

SEE TEFL Chiang Mai - SEE TEFL up in Chiang Mai has been teaching a full-time 120-hour course for over ten years and can boast over 1000 graduates. In addition to this very popular 4-week certification program, they now offer a teacher training and paid internship opportunity twice a year to coincide with the two school semesters in Thailand.

The SEE TEFL internship program is a great way to experience Thailand as a paid teacher, but also ideal for those who aren't ready to commit to a 4-week TEFL course program or a teaching commitment longer than five months. Internship includes pre-arrival classroom familiarization training, two weeks face-to-face classroom skills and cultural awareness induction training in Chiang Mai. Then a paid one-semester teaching job of four to five months in a rural or provincial Thai school. Interns are paid a minimum of 25,000 baht a month. More information here

SEE TEFL is also licensed by The Thailand Ministry of Education, which means they can help you with a non-immigrant visa. They have a webpage dedicated to all your visa options and how they can help you in each case. Well worth a look.

TEFL Campus Phuket - TEFL Campus Phuket's next course starts on March 14th and they offer an exclusive discount for Ajarn.com readers. Also, everyone who enrolls gets a free online course (US$ 250 value).

March is a great time of the year to take a course. You'll finish in mid-April and many employers on Phuket have already contacted TEFL Campus hoping to find teachers for positions that start in May. This course often fills up so it's best to contact them sooner rather than later.

TEFL Campus has been operating in Phuket Town since 2002. Their TEFL certification is validated by Fort Hays State University and the center itself is licensed by Thailand's Ministry of Education. They offer meaningful assistance with employment, visas and accommodation. Contact TEFL Campus for more details.

Text and Talk Academy - Text-and-Talk Academy has been conducting a full-time 120-hour TEFL Course for over 17 years, and has graduated more than 3,000 professional teachers working in Thailand and other countries. They have now developed a self-study MoE accredited TEFL training course aimed at teachers who are currently working and have no time for an in-house course, and those who simply want to learn how to teach and get a job, but maybe looking for a cheaper option to a full-time course.

For about half the fee of the in-house course, currently $1,495.00 USD (about 54,000 Thai baht), Text-and-Talk Academy is offering a course that can be completed at one's own pace for 27,500 Thai baht - including a bag of seven course modules, a CD, trainer-graded homework and module exams, six hours of teaching practice observed by helpful professional teachers - and the course completion certificate itself, which is the same certificate as the one earned for the full-time course.

Full details here: Or contact the Thailand National Director, Mr James Parmelee, by email or mobile phone: 081 847 7248.

Finally, for those who are interested in the full-time course starting up again around Songkran, have a look at the Text-and-Talk web site: But if you are in Thailand, contact Parmelee before enrolling, as there may be a discount available for persons currently already living here.

Chichester College - One of the unique benefits of the Chichester College TESOL / TEFL course are the excursions they arrange to local schools during the course.

The excursions (essentially field trips) give trainees the opportunity to see real teaching situations in progress from the sidelines. Chichester graduates often comment on the usefulness of this as it helps them to overcome the fear of standing in front of their first group of students during the teaching practice which comes later in the course.

In a recent blog entry by Steve (the principal trainer) wrote: "In the 2-3 years that we've been running excursions as part of the TESOL course, I've seen a noticeable increase in the level of confidence of our graduates upon completion of the course. The prospect of entering that dreaded "first classroom" is no longer a worry since everyone has already shared in the experience together and drawn strength from each other. We're glad we made this important addition to the course!"

UEC TEFL Thai  - UEC TEFL Thai offers a 120-hour training course in Central Bangkok and are committed to empowering trainees to become competent and enthusiastic teachers in an international training environment. Check out the current list of course dates. They also offer up to a 10% discount for student cardholders.

Courses are licensed by The Thai Ministry of Education and teaching practice is done with 'less fortunate' Thai students (which is a nice touch). UEC Thai TEFL also assists trainees in finding accommodation and employment and offers as much support as needed. Why not read what recent graduates have said about the course.

One of UEC TEFL's recent grads has also written a very nice article about their experience teaching in a government school in Ratchaburi.

If you are in Bangkok, you are very welcome to drop by the UEC TEFL Thai office, chat with current trainees and even sit in on a lesson. Telephone or send an e-mail for more information.
