All the latest news from Thailand's major training courses

SEE TEFL Chiang Mai - SEE TEFL up in Chiang Mai has been teaching a full-time 120-hour course for over ten years and can boast over 1000 graduates. In addition to this very popular 4-week certification program, they now offer a teacher training and paid internship opportunity twice a year to coincide with the two school semesters in Thailand.

The SEE TEFL internship program is a great way to experience Thailand as a paid teacher, but also ideal for those who aren't ready to commit to a 4-week TEFL course program or a teaching commitment longer than five months. Internship includes pre-arrival classroom familiarization training, two weeks face-to-face classroom skills and cultural awareness induction training in Chiang Mai. Then a paid one-semester teaching job of four to five months in a rural or provincial Thai school. Interns are paid a minimum of 25,000 baht a month. More information here

SEE TEFL is also licensed by The Thailand Ministry of Education, which means they can help you with a non-immigrant visa. They have a webpage dedicated to all your visa options and how they can help you in each case. Well worth a look.

Latest news - SEE TEFL has now moved into a new, modern purpose-built school just a short distance from their previous location. Check out some photos of the new facility.

Entrust TEFL - Entrust TEFL offers training locations in both Chiang Mai and Krabi and has also recently been awarded during the 2016 Thailand Educational Awards. Over 14 years they have been offering an intensive 3-week, full-time 120-hour course and qualified over 5000 teachers.

Entrust TEFL courses start on the first Monday of every month and they accept both native and non-native speakers of English. Degree holders are given guaranteed job placement and non-degree holders are given job placement assistance. The Entrust TEFL Facebook page has more info.

Since January 2016, they have trained and placed 53 degree holders and 102 non-degree holders in paid jobs throughout Thailand. They also maintain a 100% placement rate regardless of a teacher's educational status or nationality, but only place their own course graduates as they can guarantee the level of training with the schools.

The Entrust TEFL course curriculum covers 25 units along with three full days of observed teaching practice with students in local schools in either Chiang Mai or Krabi. More information on the TEFL curriculum here. The Entrust TEFL legal department also offers visa and work permit assistance for both degreed and non-degreed teachers regardless of which TEFL provider they came through. More information on visas and work permits here

Phuket is well into their low season for the island. This means there are plenty of jobs going at language schools that specialize in hotel English, as well as other areas of teaching business English. TEFL Campus can also help its graduates find jobs at primary and secondary schools across the island.

TEFL Campus has been operating in Phuket Town since 2002. Their TEFL certification is validated by Fort Hays State University and the center itself is licensed by Thailand's Ministry of Education. They offer meaningful assistance with employment, visas and accommodation. Contact TEFL Campus for more details.

If you are too busy to attend the full-time class, you can take a fully-qualifying course completed at home at your own pace for just 27,500 Thai baht - including a bag of seven course modules with a CD, trainer-graded homework and module exams, six hours of teaching practice observed by professional teachers - and the course completion certificate itself, which is valued just as highly as one earned in the full-time course.

You can get full details about the home study course on the website or contact the Thailand National Director, Mr James Parmelee, by email or mobile phone: 081 847 7248 - for information and maybe even a discount on the full-time course as well.

Chichester College - One of the unique benefits of the Chichester College TESOL / TEFL course are the excursions they arrange to local schools during the course.

The excursions (essentially field trips) give trainees the opportunity to see real teaching situations in progress from the sidelines. Chichester graduates often comment on the usefulness of this as it helps them to overcome the fear of standing in front of their first group of students during the teaching practice which comes later in the course.

In a recent blog entry by Steve (the principal trainer) wrote: "In the 2-3 years that we've been running excursions as part of the TESOL course, I've seen a noticeable increase in the level of confidence of our graduates upon completion of the course. The prospect of entering that dreaded "first classroom" is no longer a worry since everyone has already shared in the experience together and drawn strength from each other. We're glad we made this important addition to the course!"

UEC TEFL Thai  - UEC TEFL Thai offers a 120-hour training course in Central Bangkok and are committed to empowering trainees to become competent and enthusiastic teachers in an international training environment. Check out the current list of course dates. They also offer up to a 10% discount for student cardholders.

Courses are licensed by The Thai Ministry of Education and teaching practice is done with 'less fortunate' Thai students (which is a nice touch). UEC Thai TEFL also assists trainees in finding accommodation and employment and offers as much support as needed. Why not read what recent graduates have said about the course.

One of UEC TEFL's recent grads has also written a very nice article about their experience teaching in a government school in Ratchaburi.

If you are in Bangkok, you are very welcome to drop by the UEC TEFL Thai office, chat with current trainees and even sit in on a lesson. Telephone or send an e-mail for more information.
