Are the provinces the new Bangkok?

Just wanted to share some thoughts (and see what others are experiencing) regarding the current job landscape for English teachers in Thailand. It's no secret that Bangkok is saturated. Every decent job post on Thailand TEFL job sites gets swamped with applications, often from people already on the ground. Salaries are static, cost of living is climbing, and some schools are playing the old "demo lesson and maybe we'll call you" game. Not to mention dodgy agencies offering 35K for full-time hours and Saturday classes thrown in.
But outside the capital? It's a different world. I've recently seen some surprising offers coming out of places like Nakhon Si Thammarat, Roi Et, and Phetchabun. We're talking 40–50K salaries, free or subsidized housing, lighter teaching loads, and actual appreciation from the staff and community. Of course, the nightlife and expat cafés aren't the same, but the cost of living is lower and the lifestyle is arguably more authentic. Students tend to be more respectful too. The catch? Fewer creature comforts, more isolation, and you’ve got to be okay being the only farang in town. But if you’re in this for more than Instagram stories and brunch, there are real rewards.
Are others noticing the same shift? Anyone made the leap from Bangkok to the provinces? Worth it? Would love to hear your stories or tips for those considering it.
