What is Ajarn.com?

Ajarn.com was established over 10 years ago in 1999 and is the largest website for foreign English teachers in Thailand. Most of the information on Ajarn.com is in English only. This information includes articles and general help and advice for foreign English teachers in Thailand and English teachers in other countries who are considering coming to Thailand to teach.

How can I register a username and password with Ajarn.com?

STEP 1

Go to The Registration Form (opens in a new window/tab)

Enter the following information:

Email Address
Your email address

Password
The password you want to use on Ajarn.com

Confirm Password
Re-type your password

First Name
Your first name (NOT the name of your school or company)

Surname
Your surname

Language for instructions/menus
You can choose English or Thai for the language of the instructions and menus.

STEP 3

Ajarn.com will send you an automatic email with an activation link. Click on this link to activate your account. You will then be able to log in to Ajarn.com.

I have registered a username and password. How do I register a school/company?

STEP 1

Go to The Login Form (opens in a new window/tab) to log in to Ajarn.com using your username (email address) and password

STEP 2

At the top right, click on the link called "My Ajarn.com"

STEP 3

In the menu bar at the right, click on the link called "Add School/Company"

STEP 4

School/Company Name
The full name of your school/company as you wish it to appear on your job advertisements

Contact name
Your full name, or the name of someone at your school/company we can contact if we have any questions about your registration. This information is NOT shown in your job advertisements.

Phone Number
The phone number of the above-named person. Again, this is in case Ajarn.com needs to contact you. It is NOT shown in your job advertisements.

Address
This must be the legal registered address of your school/company. We will check this before we give you access to the system.

Postal Code
Please enter the postal code here

School/Company Type
Please choose the description that best describes your school/company

Province
Please enter the province that your school/company is located. This will appear in your job advertisements.

Upload Photo or Logo
Please upload an 80x80px logo here. If you don't have one at the moment, you can add it later.

STEP 5

You will now need to wait 24-48 hours (often much sooner) while we check all of the registration information you have provided. We will send our decision to you by email.

I have registered a school. How do I post a job advertisement?

STEP 1

Go to Post a Job form (opens in a new window/tab), and log in using your username and password.

STEP 2

Enter the following information:

School/Company Name
Select your school name from the menu

Job Title
Enter the full title of the position(s) you are offering. Try to be more specific than something like "English teacher".

Advertisement Grade
Choose the grade that you want to post your job ad under. Bronze Grade ads are free, but if you want to post a Silver, Gold or Platinum Grade ad, you will need to have credits in your account.

Short Description
Enter a short description that quickly describes the position you are offering.

Long Description
Enter the full details of your job advertisement

Job Type
Select either "Full Time" or "Part Time" from the menu

Pay Rate
Select the appropriate salary from the menu

STEP 3

You will receive an email from us to confirm the time it will take for your job advertisement to be posted on the website. If you chose the Bronze (free) option, it will take 3 working days (not including Saturday, Sundays or Thai public holidays). If you chose the Silver, Gold or Platinum option, it will take 12-24 hours.

STEP 4

After your advertisement goes live, you will start to receive emails and resumes from teachers who are interested in the position you have advertised.

Are there any rules or regulations about posting job advertisements?

Generally speaking, common sense rules apply at all times. However, we do have some additional guidelines to prevent cross-cultural misunderstandings between Thai schools and foreign teachers:

1) If you are looking to recruit native English speakers only, please do not make references such as, "white teachers only," as this is likely to offend some people.

2) Please give as much information as you can in your job descriptions. How many hours a week will the teacher work? What benefits do you provide to the teacher? How long is the contract? Do you provide health insurance? Etc, etc. You can never give too much information in your job advertisements.

3) Please take extra care when choosing the salary range from the drop-down menu. If a teacher goes to a school for an interview and the salary or rate they are offered is different to the one advertised on ajarn.com, then it is ajarn.com who they often complain to!

4) When you post a job advertisement, you will notice there are three fields;

a) Job Title
b) Short Description
c) Full Description of Job

Please note that if you are posting a bronze, silver or gold job ad, the information in the short description does not appear in the final advertisement. The short description should just be a one-sentence summary of the position.

Here is an example of how to fill in the three fields:

How do I purchase credits to post advertisements or view resumes?

STEP 1

Go to the Purchase Credits form (opens in a new window/tab) and log in using your username and password

STEP 2

Choose the credit pack that you want to purchase and then press "Continue".

The more credits you purchase at a time, the more money you save.

Credits must be used within 12 months of purchase.

STEP 3

Fill in the entire form with your full company details.

Please take care to submit accurate information here, because this information will appear on your company receipt!

If you are paying with your personal funds (or your own credit card) and plan to claim the money back from your company, it is important to check with your accounting department before filling in this form. They may have specific information that they need you to enter here!

After you have entered all of the information, press "Continue"

STEP 4

You now have two choices: You can pay by "Cash, cheque or bank transfer" or you can pay by "Credit card (Visa/Mastercard)". Choose the option that you would prefer.

If you are ordering more than 50 credits, you will also be entitled to a FREE ajarn.com polo shirt. If this is the case, please select which size you would like from the drop-down menu.

After this, tick the box to agree to the Terms and Conditions, and then press "Continue".

STEP 5

What happens next will depend on which option you chose in Step 4

If you chose to pay by cash, cheque or bank transfer
You will now be able to download an invoice in PDF format which you can pay at any branch of Kasikorn Bank. Please be sure to print out the invoice and present it at the bank when you pay. You will receive your credits the next day before 9am if you pay by cash.

If you pay by cheque, you will receive your credits at 9am the day after your cheque clears. The time it takes for your cheque to clear will depend on the issuing bank of your cheque. With some banks, this can take up to 3-5 working days. If in doubt, please check with your bank first.

If you chose to pay by credit card (Visa or Mastercard)
You will now be able to enter your credit card details to pay online. You will receive your credits immediately after your credit card transaction has completed.

How can I view resumes of teachers that I’ve already used credits to view?

Once you have paid 1 credit to click on a resume belonging to a specific teacher, the system will remember that you have paid to view that resume. Therefore, if you click on the same resume again, you will not be asked to spend an additional credit.

If you cannot see the specific resume in the list, simply follow these steps to view a list of all resumes that you have paid to view in the past:

Go to The Login Form (opens in a new window/tab) to log in to Ajarn.com using your username (email address) and password

STEP 2

At the top right, click on the link called "My Ajarn.com"

STEP 3

In the menu bar at the right, click on the link called "Resume Viewing History"

STEP 4

You will then be able to view a list of all of the resumes that you have previously paid to view. Please note, however, that ajarn.com has no control over when a teacher chooses to deactivate their resume or remove it from ajarn.com completely. Teachers will usually do this when they are no longer seeking employment. Resumes that you previously paid to view but have since been deactivated or removed by the teacher will be so noted.

Will I get an official “Original Receipt/Tax Invoice” for my purchase?

Yes. You will receive an "Original Receipt/Tax Invoice" including VAT within 7-10 working days after your payment is completed and we have received your completed withholding tax certificate (if applicable).

Is it possible to pay at another bank besides Kasikorn

At the moment, Kasikorn Bank is the only bank that is supported by our automated system. However, we do plan to add additional banks to the system in the near future.

Can I deduct withholding tax if paying by credit card?

Unfortunately, our system does not support this at the moment. Please pay by cash/cheque/bank transfer if you need to deduct withholding tax.

How do I deduct withholding tax from an invoice?

STEP 1

In line with the law, if you are based in Thailand, you may deduct withholding tax from the pre-VAT total. The percentage you deduct depends on how you will use our services:

If you are going to use your credits ONLY for advertising
Deduct 2% for “Advertising”

If you are going to use your credits ONLY for viewing resumes
Deduct 3% for "Service Charge"

If you are going to use credits for both viewing resumes AND for advertising
Deduct 3% for “Service Charge”

Example:

You purchase 10 Credits that you intend to use to view resumes only ("Service Charge"). The cost of the 10 Credit pack is 1,600 Baht. This means that the VAT is 112 Baht, making the total of your invoice 1,712 Baht.

You must deduct the 3% withholding tax from the pre-VAT amount of 1,600 Baht. 3% of 1,600 is 48. Therefore, your new pre-VAT total is 1,552 Baht.

Then, you must add the FULL VAT back onto the total: 1,552 + 112 = 1,664 Baht -- this is the amount you must pay at the bank. You may alter the pay-in slip by yourself.

The 48 Baht withholding tax that you deducted must now be paid to the Revenue Department by the 7th of the following month.

STEP 2

You must send the original withholding tax certificate to us before we can send your receipt to you. The original withholding tax certificate should be sent to the address at the top of your invoice.

STEP 3

You must also submit a copy of the withholding tax certificate to your accounting department so that the amount you deducted can be paid to the revenue department in compliance with the law.

Please ask your accountant for full details about this if you are unsure. Deducting an incorrect figure for withholding tax can delay your order!

Can I pay by messenger?

Unfortunately, we do not accept payment by messenger.

Can I talk to someone from Ajarn.com on the phone?

About Ajarn.com

Ajarn.com was started as a small hobby website in 1999 by Ian McNamara. It was a simple way for one Bangkok teacher to share his Thailand experiences and pass on advice. The website developed a loyal and enthusiastic following. In 2004, Ian handed over the reins to Phil Williams and 'Bangkok Phil' has run the ajarn website ever since.
