Comfort Zone

With the reality of finding a teaching jobs for Filipinos, everyone knew that they will just end up the day buttered by the prevailing fact of being discriminated.  Wherever you go in Asia, the color of the skin has become the major element of qualification than experiences and the number of years one spent in a University.  Sometimes, its your fault to be born Asian or Filipino for that matter.  You are lucky if you get interviewed, but to get the job is another thing.  If you get a job, you are blessed but how much will you be paid is another question.  You are paid not because of your degree and experiences but due to your nationality.

I salute Mattayom Wat Hnong Khaem for treating all nationalities equally.  Filipinos and native speakers are paid in same amount of Baht.  More power to you.  Nonthaburi projects under Ramkhamhaeng and Chulalunkorn respectively has to be commended for rating Filipinos at least 30,000 Baht (native 40,000 Baht).  I don't want to lift the chairs of Filipinos but just qoute the comments from one of the Schools in Nonthaburi which says: "We used to hate and dislike Filipinos hence parents would only prefer blondies. But, since the beginning of Nonthaburi project, we have no much choice to pick English teachers to satisfy parents, so we get whatever is sent us.  We have four Filipinos for almost two years now (no native speakers); and we have no more problems which we used to have during the time that we had Farangs. Now parents were thankful that their children improved a lot."
In an attempt to satisfy the said School, Ramkhamhaeng asked the Department Head if she would need native speakers by the next term.  The department head replied; "I would need the same people (4 Filipinos), I don't want any problems.

For discouraged Filipinos out there, lets give due respect to the lucky Native Speakers. That's there innate privilege.  But, don't be disheartened. If 8 million Filipinos stop working in 204 countries around the world, what a disaster would it be.  You make the world go round.  You have a place in this world.  We cannot discount the contributions of other countries and we must not be proud of ours too. On the other hand, don't darken the sky with our shortcomings.  CHEER UP! Life must go on.  Give your best shots!
