inlingua is one of the world’s largest providers of language training.
The first inlingua school in Thailand opened in 1988 and there are currently 13
branches.
As of September, 2007, inlingua (Thailand) employs around 85 full-time teachers
and 40 part-time teaching staff.
Full-time contract teachers are provided with a work permit and are expected to
work for at least 1 year for the company. In return for working a minimum of 96
hours a month (24 hours a week or 30 inlingua 50-minute periods), the average
new full-time teacher earns 35,000 – 45,000 baht per month, with 35,000 baht
guaranteed minimum for full-time contract teachers. This is a minimum
“safety-net” figure.
Other benefits include an excellent subsidised medical program (through BUPA).
We provide a bonus of 12,000 baht at the end of a one-year contract. inlingua
also provides teachers with the opportunity to study other languages (including
Thai) at a discounted rate.
New teachers are paid an hourly rate of 360 baht per hour for inside work (300
baht per 50-minute period). This increases every twelve months for teachers
meeting requirements. 540 baht per hour is paid for outside corporate work (450
baht per 50-minute period). Many outside contracts have a travel allowance.
There is a bonus of 96 baht an hour for children's weekend group classes (80
baht per 50-minute period)and an additional 48 baht an hour bonus for all other
classes taught at weekends (40 baht per 50-minute period). The starting rate,
therefore, for children’s group classes is 456 baht per hour at the weekend (380
baht per 50-minute period).
There is a 4000 baht course completion bonus for corporate work that is
compensation for writing reports. Corporate classes are usually 40 periods over
10 weeks, with in-house and intensives also available. All bonuses are paid upon
successful completion of the courses.
Each branch schedules using 50-minute periods and pays on the same system,
meaning that the typical class is 1 hour and 40 minutes long (2 periods). The
above pay rates and work expectations have been converted to hours for
comparison.
inlingua’s 12 branches in the Bangkok area are located at Chidlom, Silom,
Pinklao, Bangna, Future Park Rangsit, Bangkapi, Bangkhae, Fashion Island,
Rattanathibet, Rama II and III and Siam Paragon. There is also a branch in the
south of Thailand at Hat Yai. They are in large, modern department stores or
office blocks. We focus on three types of programs: corporate programs, adult
walk-in clients and children’s programs. Some of our teachers work primarily in
a specific area while others teach a mixture of these classes. Class sizes are
small, ranging from one-to-one to 12 students.
While we expect full-time teachers to teach a minimum of 24 hours a week (30
50-minute periods), many teachers choose to work more hours, and some of those
teachers are earning between 40,000 and 60,000 baht a month. Part-time teachers
may choose what level of work they are willing to accept.
inlingua has been in Thailand for 19 years. With our corporate headquarters in
Bern, Switzerland, and roughly 300 offices around the world, we are one of the
leading providers of language training. We are the leading provider of language
training to multinational companies in Thailand, with a client list that
encompasses much of the Global 500. We provide our clients with professional
services and instructors. We have an in-house program of professional
development workshops and well-resourced libraries in each branch.
inlingua employs qualified native speakers and provides assistance to
teachers wanting to upgrade qualifications in CELTA, TESOL, Young Learners and
Business English studies.
